Sports Attractions in Dubai

There are plenty of sports stadiums and sporting events that take place in Dubai and more than enough things to do for the budding sportsman or activity thrill seeker.

Take the Dubai Autodrome for example, a five and a half kilometer long motor sport circuit which often hosts the finals of the LG Super Cup Racing Contest. Since 2006 the circuit has hosted a 24-hour long endurance race, several top names have participated and there is even a go kart dome built within this huge complex. You will find the Autodrome located inside a feature/theme park called Dubai Land.

Tennis fans can enjoy the annual Dubai Duty Free Tennis Open Championships and there are more than plenty of golf courses across Dubai. In fact, golfers will be spoiled for choice as the scenery is stunningly beautiful, the designs of the courses are awesome and the clubhouses are warm and friendly places with great architectural designs.

Dubai really has pushed the boat out when it comes to playing luxury golf, as you expect with a sport that's become synonymous with wealth.

It is even the city that holds the world famous Dubai Desert Classic Tournament. So you can put away your clubs, drivers and putters for a few days and watch how the world's leading sportsmen play the game.

Among the best courses in Dubai are the Emirates Golf Club, The Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, Nad Al Sheba Club, The Desert Course at Arabian Ranches, Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa and the Al Badia Golf Resort.

Many of these luxury golf courses offer patrons a chance to stay in luxury accommodation where you can buy a round of golf at the same time as you order your luxury hotel room and breakfast.

Tennis is also played here in Dubai and there is always an annual tournament that features among the world's greatest players competing. Don't forget to pay a visit to the Dubai Tennis Stadium too, while you are here.

With much of Dubai sitting right on the water's edge, it must go without saying that there are plenty of yachting and sailing clubs you can get involved with. In particular the Jebel Ali Sailing Club, Dubai Offshore Sailing Club and the Yacht Club of Dubai.

Football and cricket are two other sports that are heavily featured in this city. The Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium can be used for a number of other sports but is primarily the favoured venue for the one day cricket internationals. It recently hosted a one day special series between Australia and Pakistan, and with Pakistan unable to host its own cricket events safely, Dubai was able to step in and showcase this high profile series.

Football is one of the worlds - if not the world's - most popular sports and Dubai recognizes this with a huge stadium where up to 60,000 spectators can watch the "beautiful game" as it's called around the rest of the world. The football stadium is still under construction as of 2013 with financial difficulties hampering its opening date.
