Discover Dubai's Annual Festivals & Events

As Dubai has taken centre stage as a must visit global destination, so have the number of annual events and festivals that are held in the Emirate. Different events in Dubai now span all of the months of the year, offering visitors additional attractions on top of the year round building, entertainment, and adventure ones.

Dubai has become a city where its people and leaders like to celebrate and hold events that will attract the world to come in and spend some time (and money) in this city of the future.

Every January the annual marathon takes place across the streets of Dubai. The event is held in January as it is the only month where the temperatures are cool enough to endure a 26 mile run. That said, the daytime peaks during the month will often get up to around 25c (77F) but this charitable event does not have to have you covering the full 26 mile slog if you don’t want to.

The Dubai Marathon also has a number of side events like a 3km fun run for those who are not quite fit enough to endure the full event and a 10km road race event, which you have to be over 15 to enter and the ultimate main event that covers the full 26 mile (50km) marathon, but is only available to runners over the age of 18.

There are many festivals that take place all year round in Dubai and one of the more fun-filled events is the Dubai Shopping Festival which takes place also in the month of January. It is the time when the shops are selling off bargains and holding sales as you’d see in many capital cities in Europe and North America.

But this is a shopping festival that puts all others to shame.Virtually every shop in Dubai gets involved in the January Sales shopping bonanza and you can be sure to find more than just one or two bargains here, along with dozens of opportunities to win anything and everything you could think of.

The Emirates Golf Club hosts an annual event every February through March where you can play golf for a generous cash prize and the International Jazz Festival is also held at this time of the year for lovers of swing, modern jazz and the classic moods of traditional jazz. This music extravaganza is held annually in March at the Dubai Media Centre.

If you want to watch the best tennis players in the world hit the hard clay courts, and then come along to the Dubai Tennis Tournament which is usually held in March. Here you will see the likes of Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams and Novak Djokovic.

Every year Dubai hosts the world’s richest horse race in the festival of the Dubai World Cup. Here you will see every April time the world’s fastest horses; top trainers and best jockeys compete for a share of a $10m prize fund.

The Festival of Taste in May is held at the Dubai Media City and showcases some of the best world’s cuisine on offer. Here, you will be able to sample the delicacies of Indian, Chinese, Arabic, Lebanese and European cuisines. Many of the world’s top chefs and celebrity cooks attend the annual festival of tasty food and sumptuous cuisine.

Finally, Dubai's National Day Festival is an annual day of celebration to enjoy the UAE’s independence from the UK. This festivity takes place every year on December 2 and special events are held throughout the city on this public holiday.
